HY 420 - History of Modern China |
(3). This course will explore historical themes in modern China from the last decades of the Qing Dynasty through the present including a study of the challenging political and social atmospheres. It will begin by outlining the traditional Chinese worldview and the diplomatic connections that arose from this before discussing the Western challenge and Qing response, China's involvement in the two worlds wards, the communist takeover and life in the one-party state, and finally, China's emergence as a modern superpower.
