(3). This course introduces the elements of medical terminology and provides students with a basic understanding of the language used by healthcare professionals. Knowledge of prefixes, suffixes, word roots is emphasized. Singular and plural forms of medical terms are identified, along with emphasis on word analysis, word building and pronunciation. These guidelines are applied to diverse body systems. Each body system is briefly reviewed and common diagnostic, laboratory, and surgical procedures are introduced.
